New Zone 2 IIA and IIC certifications enable broader deployment across HVAC, hydrogen, and industrial safety applications
Reno, Nevada — July 28, 2026 — NevadaNano, a global leader in advanced gas sensing and automated emissions monitoring solutions, today announced that its partner, GVZ Components, has achieved ATEX Category 3 (Zone 2) certification for both Group IIA and Group IIC gases across its MLD gas detector product line powered by NevadaNano’s MPS™ (Molecular Property Spectrometer™) sensor technology.
The certification applies to GVZ’s MLD family of detectors, including refrigerant and flammable gas leak detection solutions designed for industrial and commercial environments. This expanded certification enables safe operation in hazardous areas where explosive gas atmospheres may be present, including applications involving hydrogen and other highly volatile gases.
GVZ’s MLD detector line integrates NevadaNano’s MPS™ Refrigerant Gas Sensor and MPS™ Flammable Gas Sensor, known for their accuracy, stability, and long operational life without the need for field calibration. The sensors’ ability to detect a wide range of gases—including low-GWP refrigerants and hydrogen—makes them well suited for evolving regulatory and energy transition requirements.
“Since its launch two years ago, the MLD detector line—featuring MPS™ technology—has gained significant traction within the demanding HVAC industry, particularly for the new generation of low-GWP refrigerants”, said Paolo Gariboldi, President of GVZ Components. “In addition to our existing ATEX certification for Group IIA (e.g., Propane), we have now finalized the Group IIC certification (e.g., Hydrogen). This expanded ATEX capability opens significant opportunities to support the growing fuel cell and electrolyzer markets, positioning our technology as a key enabler in the hydrogen economy and the global energy transition. Our next step is to complete a SIL2 certification on MLD detectors. With this certification we will be able to enter in new markets as heavy industrial, railways, and oil and gas.”
“We’re proud to support GVZ Components in achieving this important milestone,” said Gary Collins, VP of Sales & Marketing at NevadaNano. “This certification demonstrates the strength and versatility of MPS™ technology in meeting rigorous safety standards while delivering reliable, maintenance-free gas detection. Together, we’re enabling safer deployment of next-generation refrigerants and hydrogen systems across critical industries.”
With growing global adoption of low-GWP refrigerants and hydrogen-based energy systems, demand for robust, certified gas detection solutions continues to rise. The combination of GVZ’s detector platforms and NevadaNano’s MPS™ technology provides a scalable solution for OEMs and end users seeking compliance, safety, and long-term performance.
