Methane Leak Detection & Emissions Monitoring

Accurate methane detection sensors and continuous methane emissions monitoring help companies meet emissions reduction targets and comply with frameworks like OGMP 2.0.

CH4

Methane (CH₄) is a colorless, odorless, highly flammable hydrocarbon gas. It is also a highly potent greenhouse gas — more than 80 times stronger than CO₂ in the short term and contributes significantly to climate change.

More About Methane

Methane (CH₄) is an invisible but highly flammable hydrocarbon gas that’s colorless and odorless in its natural state. It’s lighter than air and can form explosive mixtures at certain concentrations. As one of the most potent greenhouse gases, methane makes accurate detection essential for safety, compliance, and climate goals.

Undetected methane leaks present serious risks to both safety and the environment. In enclosed or poorly ventilated areas, methane can accumulate to explosive levels, posing a significant hazard to personnel and infrastructure. Even at lower concentrations, methane displaces oxygen, creating asphyxiation risks in confined spaces. From an environmental perspective, methane is over 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas over a 20-year period, making it a key contributor to global warming when released into the atmosphere.

Unmonitored methane leaks pose serious safety, financial, and regulatory risks. Continuous methane emissions monitoring is critical for companies operating under OGMP 2.0, LDAR frameworks, and other methane reporting requirements. Using reliable methane detection sensors minimizes unintentional and vented emissions while ensuring compliance.

  • Tank emissions and thief hatch leaks

  • Compressor stations and pipelines

  • Wellheads and separators

  • Flares, vents, and PRVs

  • Orphan wells and legacy infrastructure

Global methane frameworks like OGMP 2.0 push operators to accurately measure, quantify, and report methane leaks. Companies use Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) programs internally to help detect and mitigate leaks but not all emission technologies are equal.
