Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineer to support the fabrication and qualification testing of metal oxide sensors. This hands-on position will focus on executing the fabrication of MEMS-based metal oxide sensors for a newly awarded subcontract focused on Engineering and Manufacturing Development. The initial responsibility is to work collaboratively with NevadaNano and Prime-contractor teammates to deliver the gas sensors for government evaluation. Following successful contract execution, the position will transition to supporting NevadaNano’s rapidly growing commercial gas sensing systems products.  

The ideal candidate will bring in-depth knowledge of sensor materials, fabrication, and characterization techniques, coupled with strong analytical chemistry skills. This role will focus on the development, optimization, and testing of gas sensing technologies for applications in environmental monitoring and industrial safety. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sensor Fabrication: 
    • Assist in the preparation, deposition, and patterning of metal oxide films. 
    • Operate and maintain equipment used in sensor fabrication. 
    • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and precision during fabrication processes.
  • Qualification Testing: 
    • Conduct functional testing of sensors to assess performance characteristics, including sensitivity, selectivity, and stability. 
    • Record and analyze data using specialized software and tools. 
    • Identify and document discrepancies or performance issues and suggest potential solutions. 
  • Documentation and Reporting: 
    • Maintain detailed records of fabrication processes, experimental setups, and test results. 
    • Prepare technical reports and summaries for internal reviews and project updates.

Qualifications Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Hands-on experience in laboratory environments. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

Preferred: 

  • Familiarity with deposition or printing technologies and techniques (e.g. inkjet, ultrasonic, etc.).  
  • Experience using digital microscopes to analyze surfaces of MEMS-scale devices or parts.  
  • Knowledge of MEMS based gas sensors, microfabrication techniques, and integration of sensors into electronic systems.
